Centre for Corporate Citizenship is accomplishing a survey aimed at studying the conditions necessary for implementation of the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Ukraine.

 

The survey is carried out with the financial support of Novib Netherlands Organisation for International Development Co-operation.

 

Within the proposed project it is suggested that:

a)     10 regional focus groups and 20 in-depth interviews be held with the audiences relevant for CSR promotion and aimed at informing the target audiences and obtaining data concerning availability of the conditions necessary for functioning of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a system;

b)     CSR country report, CSR promotion strategy and recommendations on implementation of the CSR framework in Ukraine be created for: a) commercial sector; b) business training institutions; c) public administration bodies; d) CSOs (NGOs, trade unions); e) mass-media;

c)     CSR country report, CSR promotion strategy and recommendations on implementation of the CSR framework in Ukraine be presented at the final meeting, within which CSR Task Force be created.

The framework of Corporate Social Responsibility is a framework of factors both internal and external to an enterprise that create an incentive for the for-profit companies to consider themselves accountable to its stakeholders that is to all those who affect, and who are affected by the operations of the enterprise. CSR is viewed as a comprehensive set of policies, practices and programs that are integrated throughout business operations, and decision-making processes that are supported and rewarded by top management.

 

The social stakeholder groups, the impact on which is assessed within the CSR framework are: a) employees; b) customers; c) communities, d) environmental situation in the community; e) shareholders including minority shareholders; f) other identifiable interest groups relevant to the major business operations of the enterprise. A functional CSR is not only a mechanism of regulating the performance of the enterprises with regard to their social stakeholders, but also a tool of supplementing municipal and non-profit budgets from the local source, improving the transparency and accountability of the enterprises and contributing to their sustainable development.    

                    The overall goal of the proposed project is raising awareness and provision of specific recommendations with regard to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Ukraine by means of a) researching the CSR status of Ukraine, b) producing CSR report, strategy and recommendations and c) communicating  them to the audiences relevant for CSR promotion.

 

The above goal is to be achieved by means of:

 

Conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis of the specialized documentation and literature in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility; based on the frequency of inclusion into the written materials identifying the conditions necessary for functioning of the CSR framework for the following target groups: a) commercial sector; b) business training institutions; c) public administration bodies; d) CSOs (NGOs, trade unions); e) mass-media;

 

Obtaining expert consultations (network members/advisory committee/external experts) with regard to specific manifestations of individual CSR aspects reflecting corresponding CSR aspects and  accomplishing desk-research of the CSR relevant local sources;

 

Conducting 10 focus groups and 20 face-to-face in-depth interviews in 5 regions with the representatives of the audiences relevant for CSR promotion with the purpose of a) providing information and awareness raising on CSR; b) collecting information with regard to the availability of the conditions for functioning of the CSR framework in Ukraine;

Analyzing the data collected in the course of the focus groups and the in-depth interviews;

Based on the data analysis producing the report on the CSR – status of Ukraine, CSR promotion strategy (for Charitable Foundation “Democratic Society”) and the recommendations on implementation of the CSR concept for: a) commercial sector; b) business training institutions; c) public administration bodies; d) CSOs (NGOs, trade unions); e) mass-media;

Presenting the results of the focus groups, the strategy and the recommendations to the representatives of the above audiences at the final meeting, during which CSR Task Force will be created; making the CSR report, the strategy and recommendations available on-line through web-portal of the Centre for Corporate Citizenship
